Sri Sathya Sai Baba has been promoting service to humanity since
childhood. He has always been a 'stubborn' revolutionary in following the ideals of equality for all, human beings as well as animals. As early as in childhood he caused an upstir and some enmity in his village by propagating the ban of cruel bull-races and cock-fights - a source of 'entertainment' in the region at that time. Gradually his efforts expanded to social and community
projects that worked tirelessly to offer medical assistance and education
to hundreds of thousands of people in India. In all fields of
activity, efficiency, and management the Sai projects excell in
success - even in the most difficult and struggling financial and social situations
and circumstances.
Swami has always started projects when the time has been suitable for them. One of his early large projects was the first medical center for
women, including a women's college. He was pressured under heavy criticism during
an era when the majority of Indien men in authority and the home had very little understanding why women should be educated at all. In later years, he established the Ladies Day on Indira Ghandi's birthday to honor
the Indian woman and instill respect for woman as a vital part
of social balance, cultural survival and responsibilties.
Sai Baba is ever expanding his projects to fill his aim of providing
general nessecities to everyone free of charge. The Sathya Sai
service projects, supervised by the Sathya Sai Central Trust, stand
as a role model for many organisations and government departments
in India. |
